Each of us will encounter experiences in life where we lose the solid ground we have been standing and are left to forge ahead in uncharted territories. It might be externally provoked by something like a divorce, a loss, a change in health, or children launching. Or the need to shift course might be internally driven by a gnawing voice that says, “I am not happy. Something has to change.”
Life transitions can be difficult to navigate because so much gets tangled up with change — uncertainty, grief, anger, fear, identity, to name a few. Even when change is welcomed through a new relationship, a promotion, or moving to a new home, it can feel disorienting because “so much has changed.” For a time, your world turns upside down, and it is hard to find your footing.
In therapy, I can help you to sift through everything that comes up in these inevitable, disorienting seasons of life. During this time, it is important to look back, make sense of how you’ve ended up here, and get acquainted with who you are now, today. When ready, it is equally important to look forward, ask yourself what it is you truly desire, and get clarity on the direction you want to go.
Processing these layers will help you to find your feet on solid ground once again. You can discover new and meaningful ways of experiencing and connecting to yourself, your relationships, and the world.
